Seat Neighbors

Have you ever scanned a crowd trying to figure out who was going to end up sitting next to you? If you have ever traveled on an airplane or a bus by yourself it does cross your mind.

I remember one time, I was sitting in the middle seat on an airplane heading to Denver. A rather ordinary looking lady sit down next to my husband and I. Little did I know how annoying the next hour and a half was going to be. My nose was assaulted by a concentrated of lavender oil. Now I like the smell of lavender, but an essential oil bottle that for some unknown reason required being opened over and over for the next hour and a half was enough to make me crazy. Then there was the annoying seat neighbor that snored and seems to be able to sleep through anything. The best part of this neighbor was that I did get a little reading done.

My favorite seat neighbor, I meet when I was six. My Father just died a couple months before and my Mother, brother  and myself were on our way to visit someone. Probably my grandparents but it was a long time ago so some of the details are a bit foggy. We were heading across the country on a bus. the bus had two seats, an aisle, and two more seats. My mom and my little brother would be taking two seats and I was going to be sitting with a stranger.

This stranger happened to be a nun. Now I had never met a nun. She was dressed from head to toe in black and white, which was odd to me. She showed me her rosary beads with a cross on the end. I was raised in a Christian home, so her cross was comforting to me. I remember feeling safe next to her. A restful peace quickly surrounded me and I fell sound asleep. She allowed head to rest on her shoulder. I don’t know where this beautiful lady is but she will always be one of my favorite memories. When I get to heaven, I am going to find her and give her a big thank you hug!

I have heard it said that you may not remember what a person says, but you will always remember how a person makes you feel!
